My father is Johnny Baby. On pure talent he played his way from the ghetto of British Guiana to the Netherlands. And like so many artists, he lost his rights along the way — in his case to Virgin Records.
That is not the exception. In music it is closer to the rule. Whoever creates the value keeps the least of it.
"That is just how it works" has never been a satisfying answer. Where most people shrug, the work starts for me. Not going along with what is crooked, but building something that actually adds up. Not only in business, but in how I live.
Most of it figured out by simply doing it. Usually against the current, with unconventional solutions, and carrying on long after others have walked away.
